Europe's energy future is being reshaped, and it's happening now! CINEA has just released a new digital publication, "CEF Energy – Connecting Europe for an Affordable, Secure and Green Future," timed perfectly with the 6th edition of the PCI Energy Days and the unveiling of the second list of Projects of Common Interest/Projects of Mutual Interest (PCI/PMI). This isn't just a report; it's a roadmap detailing how the Connecting Europe Facility for Energy (CEF Energy) is leading the charge toward a more affordable, secure, and sustainable energy system across Europe.
CEF Energy has been a driving force since 2014, backing over 200 cross-border infrastructure projects. These projects are designed to strengthen Europe's internal energy market, boost the security of our energy supply, and speed up the integration of renewable energy sources. But here's where it gets interesting: the program is constantly adapting. It's now also supporting new strategic areas, including hydrogen infrastructure, offshore energy, cross-border CO₂ networks, and smart grids, while continuing to reinforce existing electricity and gas transmission networks.
The publication itself is a treasure trove of information. It includes a detailed portfolio chart that breaks down how CEF Energy is investing in six strategic infrastructure areas. Each area gets an in-depth look, covering investment trends, achievements, future priorities, and highlighting key projects supported by the program.
Looking ahead, CEF Energy is committed to aligning with the goals of the TEN-E Regulation. With over €1.63 billion still available for the period of 2026-2027, the upcoming annual calls for proposals will provide significant opportunities for PCIs/PMIs and cross-border renewable energy projects.
But what does this mean for the average European citizen? Does this investment truly translate into tangible benefits like lower energy bills and a cleaner environment? What are the potential drawbacks or challenges? What do you think about the future of energy in Europe? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
