The Chicago Cubs have bolstered their bench with the addition of veteran utility player Scott Kingery, who has signed a Minor League contract with an invitation to Spring Training. While the Cubs' starting lineup is already strong, the team recognizes the importance of depth, especially in the infield. With Kingery, they gain a versatile player who can fill multiple positions, providing a valuable backup option for second base, shortstop, and third base, as well as outfield support. Kingery's experience in the Major Leagues spans six seasons, primarily with the Phillies (2018-2022) and the Angels (2025). In the 2024 season, he played in just 19 games for the Angels, batting .228 with a .686 OPS. However, his 2019 season with the Phillies stands out, where he achieved a 2.7 bWAR, 19 home runs, 34 doubles, 55 RBIs, 15 steals, and a .788 OPS. The Cubs' current starting infield includes Michael Busch, Nico Hoerner, Dansby Swanson, and Matt Shaw. Additionally, infield prospects James Triantos and Pedro Ramirez have been added to the 40-man roster and will be evaluated during Spring Training.
