Get ready for an epic tale of triumph! We're talking about the 2025 UCI Urban World Championships in Riyadh, where Monster Energy's very own Anthony Jeanjean made history. This 27-year-old French sensation, with an Olympic medal already under his belt, has now claimed the world championship title in the elite division of BMX Freestyle Park. The competition, held from November 5-8, witnessed the crowning of official UCI champions in both BMX Flatland and BMX Freestyle Park. What's unique about these World Championships, launched in 2017, is that they were hosted in Saudi Arabia for the first time, showcasing the growing popularity of freestyle BMX on a global scale.
The BMX Park course in Riyadh was a beast, featuring massive obstacles that pushed riders to their limits. With huge wall rides and quarter pipes, the compact course offered spine-tingling challenges, hips, and a centerpiece jump obstacle that demanded spectacular airs and technical tricks.
In a highly competitive final, Monster Energy's Jeanjean delivered a flawless performance on his second and last run. He navigated the entire course with precision, executing a series of mind-blowing tricks: double down whip into quarter pipe, double barspin 720 on the centerpiece, barspin flair into bank, opposite footed double tailwhip on the spine, backflip triple tailwhip over the spine, 540 flair on the quarter pipe, barspin 360 on the spine, and a massive double flair on the quarter pipe. He finished with an alley-oop barspin transfer, flair tailwhip on the quarter pipe, 360 on the centerpiece, double backflip on the centerpiece, and a flair downside tailwhip. This incredible routine earned him a score of 94.44 points, securing the Elite Men's BMX Freestyle Park World Championship.
"I'm over the moon! It's my first time as the World Champion, and I'm thrilled with my performance tonight. It hasn't been an easy year, but I'm here, wearing the jersey, and I'm so proud to be the World Champion this year!" exclaimed Jeanjean after his victory.
Jeanjean's journey to the top wasn't without its challenges. He crashed during his first run but managed to compose himself and deliver a stunning comeback in the second. "I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I'm overjoyed that it all came together, and I won the World Championship," he said.
This UCI World Championship title is a massive achievement for Jeanjean, who previously won bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics and topped the 2024 UCI BMX Park World Cup standings.
