The YourHealthNS app and website offer a comprehensive overview of a patient's medical records, including diagnostic imaging, immunizations, lab tests, and medications. This streamlined process allows users to share a summarized version of their medical history with healthcare advisors or trusted individuals, ensuring that providers have the necessary information to assess and recommend treatment efficiently. Health Minister Michelle Thompson emphasizes the importance of this initiative, stating that it enables Nova Scotians to share their medical history with any provider, anywhere, in just minutes. The summary includes health data from various sources, such as hospitals, primary care, pharmacies, and virtual care, and is designed to be private and secure, accessible only to the user. It's worth noting that the summary does not capture the complete medical history, as not all historical health information is available. Patients can easily share their medical history by logging into YourHealthNS, generating a unique secure link, and sending it via email or text. They can also create and share a PIN with the recipient or generate a QR code for in-person sharing with healthcare providers. The Department of Health and Wellness claims that this feature is the most comprehensive medical information summary available virtually in Canada, meeting international standards. Furthermore, it is part of an Atlantic Canadian initiative to standardize patient summaries in terms of appearance, format, and the information presented. Since its launch in January 2024, YourHealthNS has seen over 1.2 million log-ins by Nova Scotians accessing their healthcare data, highlighting the success and importance of this digital health initiative.
