The former WBC heavyweight champion seems to have put his retirement plans on hold. In a recent video shared on Friday by South African heavyweight Kevin Lerena, titled "Chipping Away...", Fury can be seen sparring, showcasing his readiness to re-enter the boxing scene.
At 37 years old, Fury has not fought since his unanimous decision defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, who holds three heavyweight titles, back in December 2024. Following that loss, he announced his retirement on January 13, 2025. However, during the time away from the ring, Fury has remained vocal about boxing and his division. Just last month, he appeared fit and engaged, posting a video where he criticized fellow ex-champion Anthony Joshua for his comments about wanting to "kill" Jake Paul, whom Joshua knocked out in the sixth round of their recent match.
With a professional record of 34 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw, including 24 knockouts, Fury appears to be gearing up for a potential bout later this year against his compatriot Joshua. This comes as Joshua recovers from injuries he sustained in a car accident in Nigeria, which tragically resulted in the deaths of two of his associates.
In the clips from the gym, Fury demonstrated his renowned jab and agile footwork, delivering powerful punches reminiscent of his performances in his two victories over former heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder. Notably, Wilder is also making a return to the elite heavyweight landscape, with Usyk expressing interest in facing him in a match later this year in the United States.
Fury's return could rejuvenate the heavyweight division, bringing together its four major fighters and potentially fulfilling the long-awaited matchups that fans have been eagerly anticipating and debating.
As for the location of a possible Fury-Joshua clash, it remains uncertain whether it will take place in the U.K.—with Wembley Stadium being an ideal venue—or if it will be hosted in Saudi Arabia, where the sport’s leading financier, Turki Alalshikh, could play a significant role.
